Ojeda was born in Uruguay where he trained at the University of Uruguay,
School of Fine Arts. He has lived in France, Chile, Mexico and for
many years has been residing in the Washington, DC area. Woodcuts
and linocuts are Ojeda's preferred media. He prints them by hand and
generally makes small editions of 25 copies. His work is notable for
its strong imagery, lyricism and exceptional printing quality. The
prints convey a kind of visual poetry, and some of his own favorite
pieces, in fact, are illustrated poetry. He has created works based
on or including the poetry of Pablo Neruda, Walt Whitman, Sylvia Plath
and others. Ojeda's work has been commissioned to illustrate a variety
of publications.
To free himself
from the exacting discipline of the woodblock, the artist turns
to watercolors and oils. He also creates furniture fantasies, often
using discarded furniture and giving chairs or tables a new life
by painting them with fanciful birds, fish, or the ubiquitous sun
and moon, or carving them with unique design elements. He sometime
designs furniture pieces as sculpture.
Ojeda welcomes
studio visits at 3813 Upton St., NW, Washington, DC. His prints
and other artwork are reasonably priced and can be purchased directly
from him. He can be reached by phone at 202-483-6311, or email at
